These are the season averages for different months in the year
When is the best time to visit Cambodia?
Cambodia can be visited at any time of year, because even during the rainy season the weather in Siem Reap and other parts of Cambodia is never so bad that it makes it impossible to visit. Whatever the weather in Siem Reap is like, you can always take a tour around the Angkor temples.
When is the best season?
Cambodia has a warm tropical climate, however November to February are the coolest and driest months of the year with average temperatures in the mid twenties. These months are also the high season and they see the highest number of visitors. March and April are the hottest months with temperatures reaching the mid thirties. If you travel at this time of the year try to avoid the hottest times of the day as Angkor Wat covers an extensive area and there is a lof of walking involved. The rainy season runs from April to October and the roads become quite muddy. However, this is the best season to capture the reflection of Angkor Wat in the surrounding moat as the reservoirs fill with rain water during the monsoon.
Cambodia is not affected by tsunamis, earthquakes, typhoons or tropical cyclones.
The best time to visit Siem Reap is January for most people as this is one of the coolest months of the year and it is also dry season. During January the skies are clear most days so it perfect for sunrises and sunsets

There are a few more clouds appearing during March but you will get clear skies on most days.
The weather in April can be hot within the climate a bit unpleasant at times. However, April is a good time to visit the Angkor temples as it is generally much quieter during this time of year. The Khmer New Year also falls on the 14th, 15th and 16th of April
May is a good month to visit Siem Reap as it is much quieter than most other months. The climate in May is quite warm but you can have a really good time. May is also the beginning of the rainy season but there is normally little rain during this time of year and when it does rain it is normally in the very late afternoons or mid-nights. May is the start of the rice planting season in Cambodia.
The weather during June in Siem Reap is quite warm and the rainy season has started in Cambodia. Even though June is part of the rainy season it is a good time to visit Siem Reap. The weather is not very hot as the few showers Siem Reap get generally cool the air to make it a more pleasant climate. June is also a great time to visit Siem Reap as the Angkor temples see fewer visitors at this time of year. June is also one of the main months that farmers in Cambodia start planting the rice.
One of the best times of year to visit Siem Reap is July as the weather is not very hot and the rain is normally in the evenings or during the night. July is a popular month for visiting Siem Reap for many families as this is a time when many schools are on holiday. I would certainly consider July a good time to visit Cambodia.
Another good time to visit Cambodia is during the month of August. The weather is not very hot and the rainy season is not fully upon us but the landscapes are starting to look very green. August is a good month to visit the Angkor temples. if you want to keep away from the big crowds of high season.
September is one of the wet months in Cambodia but do not let it put you are off visiting Siem Reap. During September the vegetation is lush and green and the Angkor temples are so peaceful. One of the best times I visited Angkor Wat was during a heavy rainfall and it was so peaceful and picturesque. If you want to try something different during a visit in September then why not ask me about adding a frog hunting day trip to your Angkor Tour itinerary? Frog hunting is very popular during rainy season and after you have caught the frogs I will show you how to make them into a culinary delight.
October is cool and wet with day temperatures between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius. October is one of the wet months of the year so a light rain coat is advised, because it can rain at anytime, although it normally starts around 6pm. Strong trainer type shoes with a good grip are also recommended for climbing the temples as the stone is often wet and slippery. October is one of the nicest months of the year for scenery especially if you are interested in photography, as this is when the countryside is lush and green with rice fields stretching for miles.
The weather in Siem Reap during November is very pleasant as the rains have almost stopped the blue skies are starting to appear and the weather is cooler. One of the best times to visit Siem Reap is during November as the weather is almost perfect and the sunrises and sunsets are generally pretty good. November is still the start of the high season so the Angkor temples are not busy like January and February. The heat in Siem Reap during April and May is particularly intense, as the sun is very strong at this time of year. You should always protect yourself using sun protection lotion, a hat and maybe even an umbrella, especially when you are touring the Angkor temples or out , when touring the Angkor temples or if you are out in the sun for long periods of time.
